The Film That Got The World Talking About Periods Is Now On Netflix - Pad Man!
The period taboo busting feature film Pad Man, which released in February this year, is now streaming on Netflix. Within two days of release on Netflix, Pad Man became the second most popular film on the world's leading internet entertainment service.
In a country (India) where only 18% of women use sanitary pads due to period poverty issues and the cultural stigma surrounding menstruation, Pad Man went beyond it's cult movie status to become a movement, equally entertaining and inspiring both men and women to openly have a conversation about periods.
Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar shared the news on his social media handle. He wrote “A mad superhero’s superb story, #PadMan now streaming on #NetFlix @padmanthefilm @sonamkapoor @radhika_apte @mrsfunnybones @SonyPicsIndia #RBalkiâ€
The story of Arunachalam Muruganantham was first fictionalised in producer/author Twinkle Khanna’s award-winning book of short-stories, The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. A renowned vocal women empowerment champion, interior design entrepreneur, best-selling author, newspaper columnist and producer, Twinkle Khanna then felt compelled to project Arunachalam Muruganantham’s story to a wider audience by co-producing Pad Man under her banner Mrs Funnybones Movies.
Along with Akshay Kumar, Pad Man also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in leading roles, and the film is written and directed by ad-man turned film-man R Balki.
