8 hospitalized after gas leak in Massachusetts supermarket
Washington, Sep 6: At least eight people have been hospitalized and over 50 suffered from respiratory issues after a refrigerant leak in the US state of Massachusetts, the police said.
The leak was reported on Thursday afternoon at a Market Basket supermarket in the town of Rowley, 50 km north of the city of Boston. Multiple people showed symptoms of coughing or tearing. No one suffered from serious injuries, Xinhua news agency reported citing Rowley Police Department.
Investigation revealed that the leak came from an ice machine near the supermarket's bakery, the police said.
In a statement, the supermarket said the issue had been fixed and the store was expected to reopen on Friday.
