TN CPI demands action against cops for pillion rider's death
Chennai, Nov 12: The Communist Party of India's (CPI) Tamil Nadu unit on Tuesday demanded strict action against the police officials who were responsible for the death of an elderly pillion rider during a vehicle check in Villupuram district.
According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday evening when the victim Ayyammal, 63, was riding on the bike with her grandson Senthilkumar.
Near the fire station at Kallakurichi, a police team signalled Senthilkumar to stop. But the bike skidded and the woman fell down, resulting in her death.
On the other hand, political parties CPI and PMK alleged that the police had attacked Senthilkumar with a baton while he was stopping the bike, which led to the woman's death.
