Jayapal announces endorsement of two progressives running for congress

[SEATTLE, WA] –  U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Co-Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, today announced her endorsement of two progressive candidates — Marie Newman and Kara Eastman — running for Congress in 2020.

“Now is the time for bold, progressive solutions — and leaders who will serve with passion and integrity,” said Jayapal. “I am proud to endorse these tremendous candidates and look forward to working with them in Congress to push for big, structural change that addresses the root causes of the injustice and inequality we face today.”

Marie Newman, Illinois 3rd Congressional District 

“Marie Newman is passionate about serving her community and making life affordable for hard working Illinois families who have been long ignored. Marie knows how important it is for her community to have an advocate in Washington that can be trusted to stand up for everyone's best interests,” said Jayapal. “She is dedicated to protecting the rights of immigrants, fighting for healthcare for all, protecting social security and, above all else, defending the civil rights of everyone in her community. I look forward to working with Marie in Washington to make bold change a reality.”

Kara Eastman, Nebraska 2nd Congressional District

“Kara’s career in nonprofit leadership and social work — and her commitment to helping the less fortunate — is exactly what we need more of in Congress,” said Jayapal. “I believe — like Kara and Nebraskans in her district believe — that health care is a human right, and that we can transform our health care system to our regular people above corporate profit.”
