Crystal Lake: IL –
In a breathtaking celebration that united families from across the globe, Sameer Sharief and Ayesha Khan marked their union with a grand Valima Reception on Saturday, May 9, 2026. The event, held at the elegant Elara Convention Center at the Holiday Inn in Crystal Lake, Illinois, was a vibrant tapestry of tradition, culture, and community spirit.

The evening was hosted under the loving guardianship of Mr. Manzoor Ahmed Sharif Sahab and Mrs. & Mr. Mohammed Ashfaq Sharief. The newlyweds were welcomed by nearly 800 guests, including local dignitaries, business leaders, and international travelers from New Jersey, Virginia, Canada, London, and India.

A Global Gathering of Love and Legacy: The reception served as a powerful testament to the enduring bonds of family. Highlights of the evening included:

Distinguished Guests: The event was graced by the presence of US Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who offered his blessings to the couple despite a demanding schedule.

A Living Example of Resilience: Mr. Iftekhar Shareef, a prominent community leader and elder brother of Ashfaq Sharief, shared a moving tribute to a 92-year-old uncle who traveled from London for the occasion—a man who still works seven days a week and embodies the family's spirit of dedication.

Virtual Blessings:** While unable to attend in person, former Indian Cricket Captain and politician **Mohammed Azharuddin** sent a heartfelt video message that was displayed for the guests, bridging the couple’s heritage with their celebration in America.

Welcoming a New Chapter: Mr. Ashfaq Sharief warmly welcomed Ayesha Khan—daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Reza Ahmed Sahab—into the Sharief family, expressing profound gratitude to the bride’s family and the many guests who traveled great distances. The evening was further brightened by the presence of extended family members, including Razia Khan, Liaqath Sultana, Rafath Ali, Ishrath Farooqui, Sabiha Bari, Ishrath Sharief, and Tazeen Sharief.

A Celebration of Heritage: The Elara Convention Center provided a sophisticated backdrop for an evening that balanced formal dignity with pure joy. From heartfelt prayers invoking blessings to lively conversations among friends and "cricketing well-wishers" from India, the event showcased the strength and vibrancy of the Indian-American diaspora.

“In an era where distances often challenge family bonds, this Valima reminds us of the power of faith and togetherness,” noted Asian Media USA Chairman Suresh Bodiwala. “It was an honor to witness a union that so beautifully preserves heritage while embracing new beginnings.”
