Pioneer Club of Keralites In North America Celebrates Pioneer Day

The Pioneer Club of Keralites in North America celebrated its annual Pioneer Day on
June 19, 2026. The event, held each year to commemorate important holidays and
traditions of both India and the United States, featured celebrations of Easter, Vishu,
Eid, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and, most notably, the 250th anniversary of the United
States of America, our adopted homeland.

The program began with opening remarks by Joint Secretary Mrs. Lona Abraham. This
was followed by the singing of the American National Anthem by Riya Alexander, while
Mrs. Marykutty Michael led the audience in the Indian National Anthem.

A moment of silent prayer was observed in memory of members and loved ones who
had passed away during the past several months. Vice President Thomas Thomas
delivered the welcome address.

President Johny Zachariah addressed the gathering and highlighted the
accomplishments and activities of the organization. Under his leadership and vision, the
Pioneer Club has grown to more than 300 members and has become one of the most
active and vibrant organizations in the Tri-State area. Among this year’s activities were
a Caribbean cruise, a tour of India, and several casino trips. The Club remains active
throughout the year, with upcoming events including India Independence Day
celebrations, Thiruvonam, a Canada cruise, Annual Recognition Day, the General Body
Meeting and elections, and the Annual Luncheon.
Mrs. Marykutty Michael served as the Master of Ceremonies. The celebration was
enriched with musical performances by Riya Alexander, Joseph Idicula, Raju Joseph
Pralel, and Marykutty Michael.

The Chief Guest for the event was Hon. Aney Paul, Rockland County Legislator. She
was introduced by Usha George and welcomed with flowers by Liza Sam. As the Club
commemorated the 250th anniversary of the United States, Ms. Paul spoke about the
remarkable achievements of this great nation and paid tribute to the Founding
Fathers—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin—for their
contributions toward the country's independence on July 4, 1776.
Professor Joseph Cheruvelil spoke on Juneteenth and its significance in
commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. He reflected on his deep
gratitude to America, which provided him with free education during his first five years
after immigrating to the country. He also spoke about the sacrifices made by
generations of American soldiers in preserving the freedoms enjoyed today and
expressed his profound love and appreciation for the nation he proudly calls home.

Mr. J. Mathews briefly traced the history of the Pioneer Club of Keralites and recognized
both past and present presidents, as well as Public Relations Officer Mr. V. M. Chacko,
for their dedicated efforts in building and strengthening the organization.

In observance of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, Attorney Vinod Kearke paid tribute to
parents and their countless sacrifices that contribute to the success of their children.
With humor and nostalgia, he took the audience down memory lane to their childhood
days and expressed his appreciation for the opportunities America had provided for his
own success.
Mr. Joy Mekkatte, sponsor of the Pioneer Day program, spoke about his
company, Joyful Home Care.
Mr. Korason Varghese and Mr. Raju Joseph Pralel were among the speakers at the
event.
Television and digital media were represented by Jose Kadapuram of Kairali TV and
Jacob Manuel of Reporter TV. Joseph Kumbanad and Jacob Manuel served as the
official photographers for the event.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Scaria Augustine. The
meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and lunch catered by Wilson
of Kerala Kitchen.

The success of the event was the result of the dedicated efforts of the entire committee.
The Club expressed its sincere gratitude to Mathew Kumbapadam for arranging the hall
and tables and to K. J. Gregory for his assistance with transportation. Special
appreciation was extended to Treasurer John Joseph, Lizzy Chacko, and Grace
Alexander for managing the registration desk.

The Club also expressed heartfelt thanks to representatives from various organizations
who volunteered their time and support to make the event a great success. Finally, the
Pioneer Club conveyed its gratitude to Alex Esteppan for providing the Kerala Center as
the venue for this memorable celebration.
