From Bengali Television to the Big Screen, A New Chapter Begins for Susovan Sonu Roy

A face in Bengali television, Susovan Sonu Roy has now embarked on a new journey on the big screen. He has made his film debut by portraying the character of Joy in the Bengali film Take Care Bhalobasa. The story revolves around the lives of four friends, their relationships, and the changing dynamics of love over time. Joy is a character who moves the story forward through his reserved nature, moments of hesitation, and his friendly and spontaneous personality.

Although born in Howrah, Susovan was brought up in Kolkata. At a very young age, he had to face the harsh realities of life. He lost his father when he was only three and a half years old and was raised by his mother thereafter. He completed his schooling and higher education in Kolkata and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Dum Dum Motijheel Rabindra Mahavidyalaya in 2016.

From an early age, Susovan showed a deep interest in cultural activities. His mother wanted him to learn music, but he was more drawn to dance. Alongside his college studies, he trained in Western dance for nearly two years and performed at various stage shows. It was during his involvement in dance that he gradually developed an interest in acting.

Later, Susovan trained in acting for nearly one and a half to two years at the workshop of director Pijush Saha. Along with learning the basics of acting, he also started auditioning for different projects. His efforts bore fruit in 2019 when he began his television career with the Aakash Aath serial Anandamoyee Maa. Directed by the late Debidas Bhattacharya, he played the role of a Vaishnav devotee in the series.

Over time, he went on to appear in several popular Bengali television serials, including Mohor, Korapakhi, Titli, and Khelaghar on Star Jalsha. His performance in a negative role in Korapakhi particularly drew attention. In addition, Susovan also acted in Zee Bangla’s Jamuna Dhaki.

Although the entertainment industry experienced a slowdown during the post-COVID period, Susovan decided to reshape his career during that time. In 2023, he entered the world of modelling and worked with brands and organisations such as Holiday Inn Hotel, Big Bazaar, and Spencer’s. Gradually, he established himself as a model as well.

In 2025, Susovan achieved the distinction of becoming the first runner-up at the Ethnic Elegance 2025 beauty pageant held in Kolkata. After making his mark in dance, television, and modelling, he has now begun a new chapter in cinema.
