AAPI Launches AAPICON 2027 Convention Campaign with Chicago Kick-Off Celebration
Oak Brook, Illinois — The American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), one of the largest organizations representing physicians of Indian heritage in the United States, will officially launch the road to AAPICON 2027 Chicago with a special Convention Kick-Off Celebration on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Oak Brook Bath & Tennis Club in Oak Brook, Illinois.
The evening gathering will bring together physician leaders, community advocates, healthcare innovators, sponsors, and distinguished guests as AAPI begins its journey toward what promises to be a landmark convention in Chicago in June 2027.
The event will feature fellowship, networking, dinner, and presentations highlighting the vision and goals for AAPICON 2027. Special guests include Mayor Larry Herman of Oak Brook, while AAPI President Dr. Meher Medavaram will lead the ceremonial launch.
In welcoming attendees to Oak Brook, Mayor Larry Herman expressed enthusiasm for hosting the launch event.
“We are thrilled to officially begin the journey toward AAPICON 2027 in one of America's most dynamic and globally recognized cities,” said Dr. Meher Medavaram, President of AAPI. “Chicago represents innovation, diversity, academic excellence, and opportunity. Our vision for AAPICON 2027 is to create a transformative experience that advances medical education, leadership development, advocacy, physician wellness, and global collaboration while celebrating the remarkable contributions of physicians of Indian origin.”
The kick-off celebration is being organized by a distinguished convention leadership team led by Dr. Umang Patel, Convention Chair, and Dr. Utpal Parekh, Convention Co-Chair, with strategic guidance from Dr. Bharat Barai, Senior Advisor, and financial oversight from Dr. Sujeeth Punnam, Treasurer.
According to Dr. Umang Patel, the convention leadership is committed to delivering an event that reflects AAPI's growing influence in healthcare. “AAPICON 2027 will serve as a powerful platform where physicians, scientists, trainees, industry leaders, and policymakers can come together to exchange ideas, foster innovation, and shape the future of healthcare,” said Dr. Patel. “The kick-off celebration is the first step toward building a convention that showcases excellence in medicine while strengthening the bonds within our physician community.”
Dr. Utpal Parekh, Convention Co-Chair, emphasized the importance of engaging physicians from across generations and specialties. “Our goal is to create a convention experience that is educational, impactful, and inspiring,” said Dr. Parekh. “From groundbreaking scientific sessions and leadership forums to networking opportunities and cultural celebrations, AAPICON 2027 will offer something meaningful for every attendee.”
The event will also welcome Dr. Dwarakanatha Reddy, Overseas Coordinator for the Global Healthcare Summit (GHS) 2027 in Hyderabad, whose participation underscores the expanding international partnerships that continue to strengthen AAPI's global impact.
“AAPI's influence extends well beyond the United States,” said Dr. Dwarakanatha Reddy. “By fostering global collaboration and professional exchange, we can create new opportunities for advancing healthcare, research, and innovation across borders. AAPICON 2027 will be an important milestone in that mission.”
Senior Advisor Dr. Bharat Barai, a long-time leader within organized medicine and the Indian-American physician community, noted that Chicago is a fitting destination for the 2027 convention. “Chicago has long been a center of medical excellence, innovation, and civic leadership,” said Dr. Barai. “AAPICON 2027 presents a unique opportunity to bring together accomplished healthcare professionals from around the world while inspiring the next generation of physician leaders.”
The July 29 celebration is expected to attract physician leaders from across the Midwest and beyond and will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about sponsorship opportunities, volunteer leadership roles, scientific programming initiatives, and community engagement efforts planned for AAPICON 2027.
Dr. Suresh Reddy, AAPICON 2027 Coordinator and a respected former AAPI President, said, “AAPICON 2027 is more than a convention—it is a statement of AAPI’s future. As we gather in Chicago, we aim to showcase the innovation, unity, and global leadership of Indian American physicians. This conference will set the tone for the next decade of AAPI’s growth, collaboration, and service.”
As anticipation builds, organizers say the guiding theme for the convention will be one of collaboration, innovation, and service.
“Together, we will inspire, collaborate, and create an unforgettable journey toward AAPICON 2027 Chicago,” said Dr. Sujeeth Punnam, Treasurer. “The enthusiasm already surrounding this effort demonstrates the strength and unity of the AAPI family.”
