Memories

I never thought that I'd miss
The dim lights in my bus
That kept me awake in the mornings
As I tried to doze off in the sleepy lull.

The frequent squabbles that we had
In the echoing clamorous corridors
Or the silent group discussions we held
During the lockdown routines

Or all the times I took the books
To the staff room round the corner
The smell of tea wafting through the air
As I kept getting closer

Or that I would ever miss
The noisy classrooms I studied in
The jokes, the songs, the dances
Or the "well dones" that we would win

When they said "You'll miss school, you'll see"
I didn't think I'll miss it so much
Now looking back on them I see
They were, after all, my most cherished memories
