Chinmaya Mission Chicago Celebrates Soft Opening of Expanded Badri Center, Continuing Its Mission to Share Hindu Wisdom That Empowers Children and Families

For Over 40 Years, Timeless Teachings Have Strengthened Thousands of Chicagoland Families, Formal Inauguration and Religious Ceremonies

Chicago, IL: Chinmaya Mission Chicago (CMC) marked a milestone in its four-decade journey of service to Chicagoland families with a festive soft opening of its newly expanded Badri Center in Willowbrook, IL on July 12, 2026, in the presence of Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission. For more than 40 years, CMC has shared the timeless wisdom of Hindu teachings to empower children and strengthen thousands of families across the region. With increasing demand for such holistic spiritual education, CMC started an expansion project in the summer of 2025 which is almost ready for the upcoming school year. The expanded center will help the organization not only serve a larger number of families but also provide additional programming to support mental health and spiritual growth for all ages and needs.

Chinmaya Mission was founded on the teachings of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, who urged that a child grounded early in values, mental strength and culture grows into an adult who carries those values into their family, workplace, and community - and that the surest way to strengthen a household is to educate its youngest members in the wisdom of the Ramayana, the Bhagavatam, the Mahabharata, and the Bhagavad Gita.

That vision has guided Chinmaya Mission Chicago for more than 40 years, touching thousands of families across the region through its flagship children's program, Bala Vihar.

Today, more than 800 children between the ages of 2 and 18 attend Bala Vihar each year across CMC's three Chicagoland centers in Willowbrook, IL (Badri), Chicago (Gangotri), and Grayslake (Yamunotri), growing not just academically, but emotionally and spiritually. Parents and adults, meanwhile, develop spiritually through classes in Bhagavad Gita and other scriptures, as well as through study groups with peers. The center also celebrates festivals with meaning and fun, organizes popular camps and retreats, and serves the larger community through volunteer programs.

The program is guided by trained spiritual leaders Swami Sharanananda, Swami Aparajitananda, and Respected Dhiren Khatri, alongside a dedicated team of more than 100 volunteer teachers, who together teach a grade-based curriculum based on storytelling, games, chants, and bhajans. Most graduates from the program continue to live a successful life backed by values, devotion, and emotional strength.

As more parents seek emotional and spiritual grounding for their children - not just academic achievement - demand for this kind of holistic education has been growing and is expected to keep growing. In response, Chinmaya Mission Chicago undertook a significant expansion of the facility in the summer of 2025, growing the center from approximately 10,000 square feet to 27,000 square feet. This new and expanded space is designed to serve families for decades to come.

It was an auspicious beginning to have Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, formally open the expanded facility on Jul 12th, 202699. A vibrant procession with Vedic chants, drums and dances welcomed Swamiji to the facility.

Swamiji reminded the congregants that a mere building becomes a true temple only when devotees fill it with worship, love, and service. Special appreciation was extended to the CEO of the Sachi Construction Group, Mr. Rohit Patel, and his team for completing the renovation efficiently and beautifully.

The spiritual leaders planted trees accompanied by the chanting of Bhu Suktam, a Vedic hymn to seek Mother Earth’s protection. This was followed by the inauguration of the “Chinmaya Way” in the frontage road, marking yet another meaningful addition to the campus.

Chinmaya Mission Chicago warmly invites the media and the broader community to join the formal inauguration ceremonies to be held over two weekends: August 22–23 and August 29–30, 2026. Details on the schedule can be found on their website: https://mychinmaya.org. The weekend events will serve as an opportunity to visit the center and understand the various programs.

“The emotional wellbeing and spiritual growth of children is critical for the wellbeing of the whole society. This is the vision that Chinmaya Mission volunteers work for and we welcome all who share this spirit,” said Rajul Bhalala, President, Chinmaya Mission Chicago.

Starting the new academic year in this brand-new facility creates a sense of excitement in all the families. Registration for the new school year is in progress with more than 250 children already enrolled.

“The grand reopening of Chinmaya Mission Chicago’s Badri Center fills the heart with immense pride and spiritual joy. May this sacred space continue to inspire countless souls, strengthen families, and spread the universal message of oneness. Congratulations to the entire Chinmaya family on this glorious achievement” said Suresh Bodiwala, Chairman and Founder, Asian Media USA.
