IPSF 2026 Brings Syro-Malabar Community Together in a Grand Celebration of Faith, Sports and Fellowship in Texas

EDINBURG, TEXAS — The Inter-Parish Sports Fest (IPSF) 2026 concluded in Edinburg, Texas, after four memorable days of sports, fellowship, faith and community celebration from August 6–9.

Hosted by Divine Mercy Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Edinburg, in collaboration with the City of Edinburg, IPSF 2026 brought together ten Syro-Malabar Catholic parishes from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas under the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago.

The 2026 festival was the largest IPSF held to date, bringing together more than 1,800 athletes and drawing thousands of community members and supporters. Participants competed in 16 sporting categories, including football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, cricket, table tennis, chess, carrom, flag football, throwball, tug of war, arm wrestling and other events.

St. Alphonsa Coppell Retains Championship
After days of spirited competition, St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, Coppell, retained the IPSF championship title, marking another proud achievement for the parish.

While competition remained an important part of the festival, IPSF 2026 was about much more than winning trophies. Families, young people and parish communities came together from across the region, strengthening friendships and celebrating their shared Syro-Malabar Catholic faith and Kerala heritage.

From a Small Beginning to a Major Community Event
The roots of IPSF go back to 2014, when the initiative was established to provide young members of Syro-Malabar parishes in the region with a platform to develop and showcase their athletic abilities.

Over the years, the festival has grown considerably while retaining its original mission of encouraging teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship and fellowship.

IPSF 2026 demonstrated just how far that vision has come. The four-day celebration transformed Edinburg into a gathering place for Syro-Malabar families and athletes and showcased the vitality of the Indian-American Catholic community in the United States.

The partnership between Divine Mercy Syro-Malabar Catholic Church and the City of Edinburg also gave this year's festival a broader civic dimension, with competitions taking place at several area sporting facilities.

Faith, Heritage and the Next Generation
For the Indian diaspora, IPSF represents an important connection between generations. Young Indian-Americans growing up thousands of miles from Kerala had an opportunity not only to compete in sports but also to experience their community's faith, traditions and sense of belonging.

The gathering illustrated how sports can become a powerful means of preserving heritage, developing young leaders and building lasting relationships among families and parishes.

IPSF's guiding spirit — “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body” — was reflected throughout the four-day celebration.

As IPSF 2026 came to a close, participants returned home with medals, memories and new friendships, while the Syro-Malabar community celebrated another milestone in a tradition that continues to grow across America.
