‘Make Kerala Great Again’ Takes Shape as Global Citizens Movement

Global Malayalee initiative brings together professionals and citizens to develop practical solutions in healthcare, tourism, environment, technology, governance and youth development

CHICAGO / THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, August 28, 2026:

Make Kerala Great Again (MKGA), a growing global citizens’ movement bringing together Malayalees in Kerala and across the world, has formally established its initial governing body as part of its effort to build a non-political, action-oriented platform dedicated to Kerala’s long-term development.

MKGA describes itself as “A Global Citizens’ Movement for a Better Kerala,” connecting Keralites around the world to develop practical solutions for a prosperous, sustainable, transparent and opportunity-driven Kerala. The movement seeks to bring together professionals, entrepreneurs, academics, healthcare experts, technologists, environmentalists, students and concerned citizens who wish to contribute their knowledge and experience toward Kerala’s progress. 
The organization held its first General Body Meeting on August 27, 2026, bringing together members from the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, Fuji, Middle-East and India. The meeting marked an important milestone in establishing MKGA’s organizational and leadership foundation.

From an Idea to a Global Movement

MKGA Founder Cyriac Lukose told members that the idea behind the movement had been developing for a long time and expressed satisfaction that it was now taking shape as an organized global citizens’ initiative.
MKGA emphasizes that it is a non-political citizens’ movement focused on contributing constructively to Kerala’s social, economic and environmental progress.

What began approximately two months ago as a WhatsApp-based initiative has rapidly grown to nearly 350 members, reflecting considerable interest among Malayalees who want to contribute ideas, professional expertise and civic engagement toward Kerala’s future.

The movement’s approach is not simply to identify problems, but to research issues, consult experts and affected communities, develop practical proposals, engage constructively with government and institutions, monitor progress and measure results. MKGA says its guiding philosophy is centered on transparency, accountability and action.

A Vision for a Globally Competitive Kerala

MKGA’s vision is to help Kerala become a globally recognized, sustainable and knowledge-driven state built on integrity, transparency and accountable governance.

The movement envisions Kerala where innovation, green growth, tourism, healthcare, education, manufacturing and technology create world-class opportunities, particularly for young people, while protecting the State’s cultural heritage and natural environment for future generations.

Its mission includes promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, quality employment, inclusive economic growth, transparent governance and ethical leadership, while helping create an investment-friendly environment capable of generating lasting prosperity.

MKGA believes Kerala possesses enormous human and natural potential and that the global Malayalee community can serve as an important knowledge bridge—connecting international expertise, experience and innovative ideas with needs and opportunities within Kerala.

New Governing Board Announced

At the August 27 General Body Meeting, members selected MKGA’s initial governing body to provide organizational leadership while bylaws and other institutional structures are developed.
The newly selected leadership is:

Vice President: Thomas (Tom) Pullukat
Secretary: Sabu Thomas
Joint Secretary: Shaju Jacob Maliekal
Treasurer: Tomi Methipara
Joint Treasurer: Cecil Joseph
Board Members: Agnes Mathew, Attorney Thomas Abraham, Anil Kumar Pillai, Shibu Peter and Antony Francis.
Accepting the leadership responsibility, President Cyriac Lukose spoke about the significant task ahead and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing MKGA’s mission for a better Kerala.

Focus on Solutions, Not Politics

A central principle of MKGA is that Kerala’s development should rise above political divisions.
The movement seeks to work constructively with government departments, Panchayats, municipalities, institutions, universities, professionals, community organizations and subject-matter experts, regardless of political affiliation.
MKGA’s stated process begins by identifying an important civic challenge, researching it using credible information, consulting citizens and experts, developing achievable proposals, presenting them to appropriate authorities, monitoring progress and ultimately measuring real-world outcomes. 
The objective, according to MKGA, is not merely to criticize what is wrong, but to ask a more productive question:
“What can we do together to make Kerala better?”

Priority Areas for Kerala

MKGA has identified several areas in which the global Malayalee community can contribute knowledge and expertise. They include healthcare and food safety, education and skill development, good governance, sustainable tourism, technology and artificial intelligence, environmental protection, entrepreneurship, job creation and civic engagement. 
Among the initiatives currently being developed or proposed are:

Aarogya Keralam – A public-health initiative emphasizing safe food, stronger food-safety enforcement, testing transparency, preventive healthcare and public accountability.

Save Our 44 Rivers – A citizen-supported river conservation initiative intended to begin with a pilot river and develop a model that could eventually be expanded across Kerala.

Thekkady Project – A sustainable tourism and destination-development proposal focusing on responsible tourism, conservation, improved visitor experiences and preservation of the Periyar region’s natural and cultural heritage.
Vembanad Conservation & Kuttanad Development – Proposals and discussions aimed at protecting one of Kerala’s most important ecological regions while exploring sustainable long-term development.
Youth for Kerala – An effort to engage Kerala’s younger generation in civic leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, volunteering and development initiatives.

The organization is also exploring healthcare initiatives focused on the early detection and prevention of chronic diseases, including kidney disease, heart attacks and strokes, with concepts such as mobile medical camps and appropriate screening facilities discussed at the General Body Meeting.

Kerala Chapter and Youth Participation Planned

MKGA is also moving toward establishing a formal organization in Kerala.
During the General Body Meeting, members discussed creating a Kerala-based NGO with strong participation from young people and students, supported by experienced professionals and senior members serving in advisory and mentoring capacities. The organization discussed a goal of completing the Kerala registration process within approximately two months.

This local-global structure is intended to allow ideas and expertise from Malayalees around the world to connect with people and institutions capable of translating those ideas into practical initiatives within Kerala.

Nonprofit Organization Established in the United States

MKGA has begun formalizing its organizational structure in the United States.
According to the organizational update presented at the General Body Meeting, Illinois Articles of Incorporation have been completed and a Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) has been obtained. The organization is also proceeding with its application for federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, with the application process entrusted to a CPA/accounting firm.

The organization says transparency and accountability will remain fundamental principles as it develops.

Connecting the Global Malayalee Community

MKGA believes Kerala's greatest resource is its people—not only the approximately 35 million people living in the State, but also the millions of Malayalees who live and work across India, the Gulf countries, North America, Europe, Australia and other parts of the world.

Many have accumulated decades of experience in medicine, engineering, technology, education, business, public administration, finance, environmental science and entrepreneurship.

MKGA seeks to create a platform through which that knowledge can be channeled constructively toward Kerala.
The movement invites individuals to join, volunteer, submit ideas, contribute professional expertise and participate in 
project teams.

Its message is straightforward:
Kerala has the talent.
Kerala has the knowledge.
Kerala has the global network.
Now Kerala needs action.
