Cyclist killed in accident in Paramus, New Jersey

One of two bicyclists struck on a residential street in Paramus, New Jersey while riding to work early Sunday morning succumbed to his injuries, according to borough police, a report in nj.com said.

Mandeep Singh, 23, was riding side-by-side with 24-year-old Shernjit Singh at 4:52 a.m. on Midland Avenue and Cardinal Place when a Jeep struck him, according to Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg. Mandeep Singh, suffering from a serious head injury, was killed in the accident while Shernjit was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center.

Ehrenberg said the pair were riding in the east-bound lane of Midland when they were struck by the Jeep. The Jeep owner, a 38-year-old Passaic resident, stayed on scene and has not been cited or charged in the accident.

The two bicyclists were heading to work at two separate gas stations in Paramus, according to the chief.
