Islamic Center of Long Island condemns attack on churches

WESTBURY, New York (April 10, 2017) – The Islamic Center of Long Island strongly condemns the terrorist attack at two Coptic Churches in Egypt. We stand in solidarity with all citizens of Egypt as they recover from this horrific suicidal bombing attack.


Islam strictly condemns extremism and the use of violence and the taking of human life. Targeting civilians’ lives through any method of attack is forbidden and those who commit these acts are criminals.

As Muslims and people of faith we must remember that God has directed us to defend all people equally against bigotry, hate, violence and abuse. The preservation of life is one of the main objectives according to Islam.

The Qur’an, Islam’s revealed text, states:

"Whoever kills a person, it is as though he has killed all mankind. And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved all mankind."
(Qur’an, 5:32)

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.”
(Qur’an, 49:13)

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of violence and their families as they recover. We wish God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives, convey our condolences to their families and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.
