Tokyo stocks open lower
Tokyo, May 31: Tokyo stocks opened lower on Wednesday tracking losses on Wall Street overnight with a dour market mood compounded by a firm yen which weighed on exporter issues.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 85.75 points, or 0.44 per cent, from Tuesday to 19,592.10, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 5.59 points, or 0.36 per cent, to 1,567.08.
Mining, oil and coal product, and machinery-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in early trade.
