Jayanthi Srivatsan -Scintillating performance ​

The recipient of America Tamil Sangam award for excellence ​in Bharatanatyam -Jayanthi Srivatsan gave a scintillating Bharatanatyam performance in Bharatha Natyalaya’s Natyarangam​.​ Jayanthi commenced the program with a rich Invocation – Shobhillu Saptaswara in the ragam Jaganmohini a Tyagaraja kriti choreographed by late Adyar K. Lakshman.
The Varnam “Swami Naan Undan Adimai” in Natakuranji of Sri Papanasam Sivan to the choreography of Adyar K. Lakshman was neatly executed. The recital also included Choodare Padam in Sahana Ragam composed by Kshetrayya, to the choreography of Smt. Bragha Bessell. The artist completed the program with the Thilana in Ragam Mohanam composed by Madurai N. Krishnan to the choreography of. Adyar K.Lakshman.

Her mastery of dance and story showed in her integrity of line, her firmly grounded plasticity allowing her to maintain control even when stretched, lunged or twisted out from her axis, shaping refined gestures and minute flutters of her fingers. Her strength lies in the maturity and dignity that she lends to her Bharatanatyam style. Grace pervades her movements. Her every move was obviously ingrained in her body memory very deeply.

The bhava exhibited was a feast for the eyes. The dancer proved how exciting good, clean nritta could be.The audience was spellbound her performance, which displayed flawless nritta and a subtle, detailed approach to abhinaya. Her expressions were graceful; the transitions were smooth and natural, despite the often lightning speed of the changes. Clear footwork, energy and pleasing rhythmic patterns were the hallmarks of Jayanthi’s performance.

Guru Roja Kannan did the Nattuvangam, Nandhini Anand gave the vocal support while Vijayaraghavan excelled in Mirundangam and Ishwar Ramakrishnan on the violin.

Jayanthi Srivatsan is the prime disciple of Guru Roja Kannan. Her formal training started at the age of four and she had her arangetram at the age of 12 with the renowned Guru Padmashri Adyar K.Lakshman. Jayanthi continued to pursue the art form from Roja Kannan and has been performing for twenty plus years. Jayanthi is learning the nuances of abhinaya from the abhinaya exponent Bragha Bessell.

she has performed at all the major Sabhas and Cultural organisations in the State including the “Sivarathri Dance Festival” held at Chidambaram by Natyanjali Trust, Karthik Fine Arts, Spirit of Unity, Indian Fine Arts Association, Sri Parthasarthi Swami Sabha to name a few.

​ ​She has been a part of several dance productions of her gurus like Dasaavatharam, Endaro Mahanubhavulu, Aranganin Padhayil to name a few. Jayanthi had the privilege to be part of the Nitya Akhanda Nrittam a 27 hour non-stop Bharatanatyam Marathon relay conducted in Delhi by Ganesh Natyalaya for the 80th Birthday celebration of Padmabhushan Guru Smt. Saroja Vaidyanathan.
She was awarded the Best Performer twice for the senior category by Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha during its dance festival. Jayanthi is a recipient of the title Naatya Tharagai presented to her by the New York based America Tamil Sangam.
