Petrol in Blue, Diesel in Orange: Supreme Court Mandates Color Coding for Vehicle Fuels
The Supreme Court has intervened to make it mandatory for petrol and diesel vehicles to have different colored stickers. Vehicles running on petrol will have blue stickers, while diesel vehicles will have orange stickers, which will help distinguish the type of fuel used in each vehicle. There are certain limitations in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules for implementing this scheme nationwide. The initiative is being introduced across the country to make pollution control measures more effective. The bench comprising Justices Abhay S. Oka and A.G. Masih clarified that, if necessary, the court would intervene in the matter by exercising constitutional powers under Article 142.
