All petrol pumps in the state will remain closed today from 6 AM to 12 noon. The decision was made by the All Kerala Federation of Petroleum Dealers in protest against the attack on petroleum dealers' representatives by tanker drivers during a discussion at the Elathur HPCL depot. A meeting chaired by Kozhikode District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh was held to resolve the issues between the office-bearers of the Petroleum Dealers Association and the tanker lorry workers. However, the district administration took a firm stand that there was no need for further discussion on the matter, as the practice of tanker lorry workers collecting "protection money" from petrol pump owners is neither legal nor authorized.
