BRICS Summit: Delhi Police conduct mock drills at key metro stations

New Delhi, Sep 11
Delhi Police, in coordination with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and other allied agencies, conducted multi-agency mock drills at key Metro stations across the national capital as part of security preparedness ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026.

The exercises, conducted on Thursday (September 10), were aimed at assessing and strengthening the preparedness of security and emergency-response agencies to deal with potential security threats and emergencies, including simulated terrorist attacks and unattended-baggage incidents.

The mock drills were conducted at Jama Masjid, Supreme Court, Dhaula Kuan and IGI Airport Metro stations.

At Jama Masjid Metro Station, a simulated terrorist attack involving two attackers was carried out. At Supreme Court Metro Station, the exercise involved a simulated terrorist attack, followed by a coordinated response, apprehension or neutralisation of the simulated attackers and evacuation of casualties.

The exercise at Supreme Court Metro Station also included a simulated casualty-management operation, with injured persons being evacuated through emergency medical services for simulated treatment.

At Dhaula Kuan and IGI Airport Metro stations, unattended-baggage scenarios were simulated in the unpaid areas. The response involved immediate dissemination of information, mobilisation of police and security personnel, securing of the affected areas and examination of the unattended objects by specialised Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams and trained canine teams.

The exercises witnessed the participation of Delhi Police, Delhi Metro Rail Police, CISF, DMRC, PCR, Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams, Dog Squads, Delhi Fire Service, CATS Ambulance, medical and forensic teams, Traffic Police, Special Cell, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and other concerned agencies.

The drills were conducted to assess response time, inter-agency communication, command and coordination mechanisms, emergency medical response, evacuation procedures and specialised intervention capabilities.

The exercises form part of the broader security-preparedness measures being undertaken for the BRICS Summit 2026. Delhi Police have been focusing on anticipatory policing, preventive security, inter-agency coordination and rapid response to emerging situations.

With the Delhi Metro serving as a crucial part of the national capital’s public transportation network and connecting several important locations, security preparedness at Metro stations remains a key component of the overall security arrangements for the summit.

Regular mock drills help security and emergency-response agencies identify operational gaps, validate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), improve coordination and enhance the readiness of personnel to deal with emergency situations.
