What is Kon Yashwant Pansare? about?
Once a formidable advocate, Yashwant Pansare has been reduced to working as a notary following a devastating failure that leaves him consumed by guilt and self-doubt. His life takes an unexpected turn when Sadashiv Mapari, an elderly father, sets himself on fire outside the court, alleging that the system has failed to act on the disappearance of his daughter, Alka. Shaken by the desperate act, Pansare returns to the courtroom and files a Public Interest Litigation, with Janhavi, a fearless young lawyer who challenges conventional professional norms, joining him in the fight.
What begins as a missing-person case soon unravels into a complex web of police records, questions surrounding mental illness, concealed evidence, and powerful political interests. As the matter escalates into a high-stakes Habeas Corpus hearing, Pansare finds himself up against formidable opposition, including Public Prosecutor Sarda, while every new revelation forces the court and those involved to question what they believe to be the truth. For Pansare, the search for Alka becomes more than a legal battle; it becomes an opportunity to confront his past, reclaim his voice, and find redemption through the fight for justice.
Why Kon Yashwant Pansare? stands out:
● A courtroom drama rooted in investigation: The story moves beyond the courtroom, uncovering the layers behind Alka’s disappearance.
● A powerful redemption arc: Pansare’s pursuit of justice becomes a deeply personal journey of confronting his past and reclaiming his identity as a lawyer.
● Justice versus power: The series explores the conflict between an individual seeking answers and powerful institutional and political forces.
● A case that keeps shifting: As the PIL transforms into a Habeas Corpus hearing, every revelation challenges the audience’s understanding of what really happened.
● The human cost of institutional failure: At its core, the story examines what happens when a desperate plea for justice goes unheard and one man decides to challenge the system.
● Bharat Jadhav delivers a powerful and never-seen-before performance as Yashwant Pansare, bringing remarkable depth, conviction and vulnerability to the character.
Official statements:
Harish Goyal, Territory Head – Americas, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., said, “At ZEE5, we are committed to taking powerful, rooted Indian stories to audiences across North America and around the world. Kon Yashwant Pansare? combines the pace of an investigative thriller with the emotional depth of a compelling human story, while raising questions around justice, institutional accountability and the courage it takes to challenge the system. With a remarkable performance led by Bharat Jadhav and a strong ensemble cast, we believe the series will resonate not only with Marathi-speaking audiences but with viewers everywhere who appreciate gripping, meaningful storytelling.”
Actor Bharat Jadhav said, “Yashwant Pansare is a character who immediately stood out to me because of the layers within him. He is a man who has experienced failure, carries the weight of his past, and has almost lost his belief in himself. What makes his journey interesting is that he does not suddenly become a hero; he is pushed back into the fight because he cannot ignore what is happening in front of him. As he begins investigating Alka’s disappearance, he is forced to confront not just the system but also his own fears and guilt. The courtroom becomes a space where he slowly finds his voice again and finds his way back to redemption. I believe audiences will connect with the emotional side of Pansare’s journey while also being drawn into the mystery and the questions the story raises about justice, truth and institutional responsibility.”
Actor Pushkar Shrotri said, “What drew me to Sarda was that he isn’t simply someone who stands opposite Pansare in the courtroom. He is a lawyer who understands the system, its workings and the power that comes with it, which makes his conflict with Pansare much more layered. The courtroom exchanges between them are not just about winning an argument; they reflect two very different perspectives on law, justice, and the system. Playing Sarda required a certain restraint because his authority comes from his composure and experience rather than theatrics. Kon Yashwant Pansare? explores some very pertinent questions about justice and what happens when institutions fail the people they are meant to serve, and I’m looking forward to audiences engaging with those questions.”
Actress Shivani Rangole said, “Janhavi is someone who refuses to accept that age, experience or established ways of doing things should determine how far she can go. What I found most interesting about her is that her fearlessness comes from her conviction — she is willing to question what others have accepted as the norm. Her association with Pansare also becomes an important part of the story, because while they approach the case from different places, they both challenge the system in their own way. Working with Bharat Jadhav and Pushkar Shrotri on a story that moves between courtroom drama and investigation was a wonderful learning experience. I believe Kon Yashwant Pansare? will stay with audiences because at its heart, it is a story about courage, truth and the pursuit of justice.”
Writer-Director Anand Dilip Gokhale said, “Kon Yashwant Pansare? is, at its heart, a story about what happens when a person refuses to accept that a case should simply be closed because the system has stopped looking for answers. Yashwant Pansare is a man who has already lost a part of himself because of a past failure, and this case forces him to confront that failure. While the courtroom and investigation drive the narrative, the emotional journey of Pansare is equally important. We wanted to create a story where every piece of evidence, every testimony, and every revelation make you question what you thought you knew. I am excited for audiences to experience this world and follow Pansare as he searches for justice, truth, and ultimately, redemption.”
Kon Yashwant Pansare? premieres on 16th October 2026, exclusively on ZEE5.
