Senator Cory Booker Hosts Rally for the South Asian, Asian American & Pacific Islander Community
FORDS, NJ — U.S. Senator Cory Booker hosted a get out the vote rally for the Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) and South Asian community on Wednesday at Royal Albert’s Palace in Fords, New Jersey. He was joined by U.S. Senator Andy Kim, Congressman Frank Pallone, and prominent Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and South Asian elected officials and community leaders in New Jersey.
Over 600 community members from across New Jersey attended the rally, highlighting the growing civic participation and representation of the state's Asian American, Pacific Islander and South Asian community.
The rally provided an opportunity for community members to hear directly from federal, state, and local leaders and reflected the longstanding relationships between New Jersey's elected officials and the state's diverse communities, and the importance of voting next week for leaders who will fight for their community.
“I am proud to stand with New Jersey’s South Asian, Asian American & Pacific Islander communities, and look forward to having their support at the ballot box next Tuesday. This is a growing and vibrant community who will make their voices heard to elect leaders who will fight for them,” said Senator Cory Booker. “Whether it’s the vibrant Indian American community throughout Hudson and Middlesex Counties, the Chinese American community from Central Jersey, Korean Americans from Bergen County and so many other communities across the state, he contributions that this community has and continues to make personifies the great diversity, talent and accomplishments to our great state and the country as a whole.”
The gathering also highlighted the growing representation of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and South Asians in public office, including Senator Kim, the first Korean American elected to the United States Senate, and Indian American leaders serving in municipal and state government.
New Jersey is home to one of the nation's largest Asian American and Pacific Islander populations with established communities throughout Middlesex, Bergen, Hudson, Morris, and other counties. These communities have contributed significantly to the state's economic, cultural, and civic life through entrepreneurship, public service, education, and community organizations.
The event took place just six days before the November 3 general election.
