Raji Brar nominated to Kern County Board
California Governor Jerry Brown appointed Raji Brar, 39, of Bakersfield, California, to the 15th District Agricultural Association, Kern County Fair Board of Directors. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation.
Brar has been owner and operator at Countryside Market and Restaurants since 2003. She served as a member of the Arvin City Council from 2006 to 2008, was an executive assistant at Clinica Sierra Vista from 2001 to 2003 and a chemist at BC Laboratories from 2000 to 2001.
Brar earned a Master of Science degree from California State University, Bakersfield. Brar is a Democrat.
Brar was previously elected to the city council in Arvin, 2006-2008. She also served as vice chair of the Arvin Redevelopment Agency and was elected a board member of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.
In 2007, Brar was named a “Woman of the Year†for Senate District 16 in California. Married, she and her husband have two children.
