Bopanna-Mergea in Washington Open quarters
Washington: Indo-Romanian tennis pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea moved past the scratch combine of Andy Murray and Daniel Nestor to advance to the men's doubles quarterfinals of the $1.5 million Washington Open here.
The third seeds took just over an hour to defeat the Scottish-Canadian pair 2-6, 6-1, 10-3 on the outdoor hard courts of the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Centre on Monday.
After sharing the first two sets, it all boiled down to the super tie-break where Bopanna and Mergea's net game proved far better than that of Murray and Nestor.
The Indo-Romanian combine will next face the Bulgarian-American pair of Grigor Dimitrov and Mardy Fish.
