Atletico ride on Griezmann brace to qualify for Champions League last 16
Madrid, Nov 2: French striker Antoine Griezmann scored a last-gasp winner as Atletico Madrid beat Russian football club FC Rostov 2-1 to qualify for the Champions League last 16.
Atletico's Group D rivals Bayern Munich also advanced to the next round with a 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, reports Tass.
Griezmann opened the scoring with a brilliant flick in the 28th minute, but Sardar Azmoun equalised for Rostov two minutes later.
It was only the fourth time in 19 home Champions League games under Diego Simeone that Atletico have conceded - before Griezmann fired in the final stages of the match.
Rostov's loss ended their chance to enter the tournament's playoffs.
Atletico have now 12 points, three ahead of Bayern (9).
The group's other two teams -- PSV are third (one), Rostov are fourth (1).
Rostov will receive Bayern in the next round match on November 23.
Atletico will meet PSV in a home match in Madrid the same day.
