Long queues outside banks, ATMs in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Nov 11: Hundreds and thousands of persons queued up outside banks and ATM's in Uttarakhand on Friday as banks opened for the second day after currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 were demonetised.
While serpentine queues seen at many banks in the state capital were by and large disciplined, reports of scuffle between people and security guards at some bank branches on smaller towns have been reported.
People were waiting for their turn to get the new currency notes and also deposit their old money.
The banks opened at 9 a.m. while the ATM's in some places would open at 12 noon, an official told IANS. Security around banks and ATM's has been beefed up following fears that people might get unruly once the new cash currency arrives.
In the last 24-hours, more than Rs 250 crore was deposited in 168 bank branches in the state capital alone, an official said while informing that more money inflow is likely to come in on Friday.
